Google New update Penguin 3.0 Rollout Still Ongoing

Image
Google says the Thanksgiving ranking shuffle is related to the Penguin 3.0 release from six weeks ago. Barry Schwartz  on December 1, 2014 at 11:48 am 937 MORE Google has confirmed with us that the shifts and changes  reported  throughout the industry on Thanksgiving day  were a result of the  Penguin 3.0  refresh that first began rolling out 6-weeks ago. Google told us in response to what we saw on Thanksgiving day, “the Penguin rollout is ongoing, and this is just the effect of that.” The interesting part was that Google began the rollout of Penguin 3.0 on October 17, 2014, which was 45 days ago, or over six-weeks ago. For this to still be rolling out is unusual, I would think. In addition, many sites that reported changes on that Thanksgiving, only saw recoveries. Meaning, it looked like somewhat of a reversal of the Penguin 3.0 rollout that happened in October. But the results from what happened over Thanksgiving is still unclear. The Penguin 3.0 rollout initially impact

How To make Best SEO work Reports for your client?

Image
This is a topic that nobody seems to want to commit to answering. The truth is there are many great SEOs, working hard and getting great results, but at the end of it, some clients aren’t as happy as they should be. There could be plenty of reasons why this is the case, but one of the most common factors is the reporting. From my experience reports are an often overlooked element of the service, which can lead to a fairly high dropout rate of clients. The reports should be a way of showing the impact that your work is having on their business – if it doesn’t do this, why should your client get on board with what your doing? So what should you include in your reports? This isn’t a definitive guide – far from it, but this should give you a starting point (especially if you are new to performing seo for clients). Project Overview A nice way to start a report is to highlight the objectives of the project, which ensures that the client is reminded why they are investing in SEO. Typical

Mobile Usability - New Feature of Google Webmaster Tool

Image
Google announced a new feature available in Google Webmaster Tools on 29th-oct-14 for tracking your mobile usability issues. The new report is named the Mobile Usability report and it is available at google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-usability within Google Webmaster Tools. The tool will show you common usability issues with your mobile site, so that you can fix them and improve your mobile experience for your users. The specific errors the report shows are flash content (which they issue warnings for), missing viewport meta-tag for mobile pages, tiny fonts that are hard to read on mobile, fixed-width viewports, content not sized to viewport, and clickable links/buttons too close to each other. John Mueller from Google’s Webmaster Trends Analyst team based in Zurich said they “strongly recommend you take a look at these issues in Webmaster Tools.” Why? He doesn’t mention any ranking signals but it does seem based on Google’s back talk, mobile UX will be a ranking signal in Go

Google Penguin 3.0 Update ready to launch on 17-oct-14

Image
Google Penguin 3.0 Update ready to launch A Google representative has confirmed what has been the subject of much speculation over the weekend — a Google Penguin 3.0 update was rolled out on Friday. This marks the first update to the Penguin algorithm in over a year. On October 9th at Pubcon Las Vegas, Bruce Clay stated during one of his sessions on link building that sources led him to believe that a Penguin update would be coming within the next 10 days. Less than 10 days later a Penguin update was rolled out, so how’s that for a prediction! At this time, few details are available from Google other than the fact that an update was rolled out. What percentage of search results it’s expected to affect is still unclear at this time. However, that doesn’t mean SEOs can’t do their own digging and retrieve their own data. Here’s The Reaction So Far This afternoon on Twitter, Moz’s Cyrus Shepard published a collection of screenshots showing data from various SEO reporting tools:

What is Google Analytics Benchmarking? and how it help us?

Image
What is Google Analytics Benchmarking? Benchmarking, for those that were in the know, was once a fantastic feature of Google Analytics. Discontinued in 2011, and then followed by the removal of Adplanner the following year, meant it became a lot harder to contextualise the great work marketers were doing and get valuable market information. Alternatives for benchmarking have always been available, based on toolbar tracking or proprietary stats vendors for example, but those that used Google Analytics benchmarking reports loved the feature for its simplicity, the fact that it was perceived to be well informed, and of course it was free. Well, as announced on the Google Analytics blog today, this ever popular feature has been revived. For those that opt in to anonymously share their data, version one of the new implementation is being rolled out to all Google Analytics Universal users, with promises of much more to come in the future. How this helps Benchmarking should be

Image
What is the link disavow tool? The tool allows you to disavow unnatural inbound links for a domain verified in your Google Webmaster Tools. Specifically you can ask Google to ignore links you do not control if you believe they could be harming your website’s rankings. “ If you believe your site’s ranking is being harmed by low-quality links you do not control, you can ask Google not to take them into account when assessing your site.” What are inorganic links?
